Joni Olehausen, ND Board Member, Council on Naturopathic Medical Education

In addition to the Academic Collaboration for Integrative Health board of directors, Dr. Olehausen currently serves on the Council on Naturopathic Medical Education (CNME) board. Joni Olehausen earned her doctorate in naturopathic medicine from National College of Naturopathic Medicine (i.e. National University of Natural Medicine) in 1997. Over the past 21 years, her career has encompassed clinical practice, teaching, administration and legislative advocacy. Dr. Olehausen has over a decade of experience teaching and managing naturopathic medicine and allied health programs. Prior to pursuing her naturopathic medical career, Dr. Olehausen served ten years as a US Army Reserve officer.

Dr. Olehausen is the former associate dean of naturopathic medicine at Bastyr University California campus in San Diego. In this capacity, Dr. Olehausen served as the on-site administrator overseeing the academic and clinical aspects of the naturopathic medical program (including rolling out a revised curriculum), assessing physical and human resources necessary for increased student enrollment and facility expansion of the new branch campus and clinic, and establishing community outreach training sites in the San Diego area. During her tenure, Dr. Olehausen established the first student teaching clinic (including implementing electronic health records) and first naturopathic post graduate (resident) program at Bastyr University California.

Prior to San Diego, Dr. Olehausen served as the associate dean of clinical education at Bastyr University’s Seattle campus, dean of medical education and dean of clinical education at Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine, Tempe, Arizona. During her tenure at SCNM, Dr. Olehausen implemented clinical assessment exams, speciality clinic rotations, clinical field observation sites and a standardized patient program. She was part of the leadership team that implemented the first revised competency based curriculum and electronic health records at a naturopathic college.

From 2008-2018, Dr. Olehausen served on the naturopathic Council of Chief Academic and Clinical Officers (co-chairing twice) and participated in three CNME accreditation site visits (acting as team chair twice) to naturopathic medical programs. Dr. Olehausen is recipient of Bastyr University Founders’ William A. Mitchell, Jr. N.D. Service Merit award and the Bastyr University California 2016 Shui Award for “No Mission Impossible”. She was also a finalist in the categories of “Health Care Educator” and “Company Executive” for San Diego Business Journal’s 2015 Healthcare Champions.
