ACIH presence on ResearchGate (Nov. 4, 2019)
Interdisciplinary, collaborative research across the integrative health professions is central to advancing patient-centered, whole person care and holistic health. The ACIH Research Working Group (RWG) created an expressed goal to increase the connections, networking, and collaboration of integrative health researchers across disciplines and fields of interest. After discussing several options, the RWG decided to leverage the well-established professional networking site, ResearchGate (RG), to achieve this goal, elevate publications and identify new opportunities for research and funding collaboration. Whole Systems Research Methods in Health Care: Where are we now? (September 11, 2019). Nadine Ijaz, PhD, Postdoctoral Fellow, Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Toronto, joined ACIH Research, Education and Clinical Working Groups for a presentation / discussion about a Special Focus Issue On Multimodal Approaches In Integrative Health: Whole Persons, Whole Practices, Whole Systems. Dr. Ijaz lead a team that included RWG member Jennifer Rioux, PhD and past ACIH executive director John Weeks examining 41 WSR exemplars in a review entitled Whole Systems Research Methods in Health Care: A Scoping Review (JACM-Paradigm, Practice and Policy Advancing Integrative Health, The Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine, March 2019). The article, which received honorable mention for the 2019 ISCMR Scientific Article Prize, is available in open access. Interprofessional Collaboration (IPC) among Complementary and Integrative Health (CIH) Providers: Challenges, Facilitators, and Suggestions for Improvement (June 20, 2019) Anthony J. Lisi, DC, Beth Rosenthal, MPH, MBA, PhD, and Hannah Gravrand, DC, MS discussed results of their study about Interprofessional Collaboration (IPC) among Complementary and Integrative Health (CIH) Providers in Private Practice and Community Health Centers. Study results were accepted for publication in the Journal of Interprofessional Education & Practice, Volume 15, June 2019, Pages 70-74. VA’s Whole Health System: What can be learned and applied to your practice? (June 13, 2019)
ACIH Clinical, Education and Research Working Groups presentation and discussion about the successes and challenges of the VA’s Whole Health program. The Whole Health program at the VA seeks to support patients in getting more of what matters most in their lives. Veterans in the program develop a personalized health plan based on their values, needs, and goals. This patient centered approach typically incorporates integrative health practices to work through challenges that are preventing Veterans from living a healthy life and achieving their goals. Follow-up to the NAM Non-Pharmacologic Approaches to Pain Management Presentation and Discussion (Feb. 13, 2019)
Belinda Anderson, PhD, LAc (RWG co-chair) gave a summary of the NAM Non-Pharmacologic Approaches to Pain Management event held in December 2018, and then Marcia Prenguber, ND (CWG co-chair) facilitated a discussion about what we can do with respect to collaboration, following up on the NAM event. Research literacy and the real world: Examples from Academic Institutions and Community Collaborations (March 2018)
Joint ACIH Education, Research and Clinical Working Group presentation and discussion. Beth Howlett, MAcOM, LAc (EWG co-chair), Diane Mastnardo, BS, LMT (EWG member), and Candise Branum, MLS (Director of Library Services, OCOM) shared their experiences and opportunities for collaboration, followed by Q&A and discussion. Systematic review for low back pain (June 2017)
Lisa Taylor-Swanson, MAcOM, PHD, ACIH RWG member, spoke about a systematic review project in which she was involved, for low back pain, followed by Q&A and discussion. The abstract "Systematic Review of Acupuncture for Low Back Pain: Efficacy and Clinically-Meaningful Change" is available here.

Hospital Based Massage Therapy (HBMT) Competencies Discussion (September 2016)
HBMT Task Force members invited interested parties, including respondents to a prior HBMT TF survey, to participate in a conference call discuss the draft HBMT specific competencies. ACIH Clinical Working Group presentation and discussion Bonney Lynch, LAc, CMT gave a brief presentation about integrating acupuncture and related services and primary care at LAHC and stimulated an active discussion about how to gather patient outcome data via EHR and other issues involved in integrative clinics.
